It's official GD1 is ‘Toitū carbon reduce’ certified!

This is just the beginning of our journey. As a team, we are beyond excited to be measuring and managing our climate impact.

So what does this mean?

Toitū awards this certification to companies that are measuring, reducing and offsetting their carbon footprint. “In short, certification signals that GD1 is on a journey to understand the impact we have on the climate; and that we are committed to minimising that impact. Initially, we’ll focus on  those things within our direct control -- like office space, travel, employee commuting and habits." - explains Heather Gadonniex, GD1 Operating Partner and CMO.

Our ultimate goal is to better understand the impact of our entire portfolio and to help those within our portfolio understand and reduce their impact too.

About the certification.

To achieve the certification, GD1 measured its full greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (also known as a carbon footprint) in order to understand what our impact is. The inventory was independently verified and we then went about developing plans to manage and reduce our emissions continually.

“Importantly, this isn’t a ‘one and done’ exercise and we’ll have to work hard to keep reducing our footprint and having a positive impact on an ongoing basis.  We’re working to embed this ethos across our organisation as ‘the way we do things around here’. This work is based on a deep conviction that we need to act fast and work together to build a clear path towards a low carbon economy,” concludes Heather.

We do good things with good people.

It is part of who we are. We embrace circularity; working to lift the standards of company practice; and acting to social, environmental and corporate best practices we can be proud of.

We are on a journey, together with our portfolio companies, to bring these powerful aims to life - because without actions aimed at realising their potential - they’re only words. Third party certification is a key part of demonstrating that we’re serious about our ESG commitments.

GD1’s commitment to ‘walking the talk’ extends to providing portfolio companies with practical, actionable advice to suit that stage that they’re at in their impact and ESG journey.

A big ‘thank you’ goes out to Toitū for their support with our certification process; as well as the stellar GD1 administration team who made this happen - spearheaded by Sinead Burns. If any of our GD1 portfolio companies or those who are part of the NZ tech ecosystem would like to have a chat about the certification process, drop us a line.
